Spring Semester 2011: Week 7 - Database Administration

Database administration: a source of both pride and pain for many folks in the IT community. Thankfully we have fantastic folks in the community to help you navigate through the tricky world of administration. This week we have two amazing professors: Mike Walsh and Robert Davis! This week's lessons have started discussing one of the most key elements in administration: disaster recovery! Mike kicked off this week asking us if we can restore our data and today Robert has followed up discussing on the how's/why's of recovering data. Also don't forget to check out Coach LaRock's lessons on administration this week. There's still more great content left for the week so make sure to check the main page to make sure you don't miss a lesson!

Also some more exciting news, you can catch the live version of SQL University this coming May at SQL Rally! Come see the folks who have been sharing their knowledge online in person such as:

  • Jorge Segarra
  • Mike Walsh
  • Jeremiah Peschka
  • Julie Smith

Mike Walsh has been working with SQL Server for over 11 years. The most recent few years have seen him giving back to the SQL Server community he stole knowledge from for so long through blogging, speaking, SQL University and volunteering for various PASS initiatives. He also runs the Portsmouth, NH based Seacoast SQL Server Users Group. Mike normally focuses on the DBA end of the spectrum but he loves getting into performance issues and discussions (from a setup/resource perspective or a coding/design perspective). Most recently, he is the SQL Server Practice Lead at Winxnet, Inc (www.winxnet.com) - A managed services and development consultancy based out of Portland, Maine. In this role, he is working to define a scope of practice for SQL Server challenges of all sizes and really enjoying helping diverse clients get the most out of SQL Server. When he isn't tweeting, speaking or playing with SQL he is busy with his growing family and his active church family.
